We often think about what we want from a positive facing perspective:
I want X vehicle
I want a relationship like Z has
But it's often much more impactful to frame things in the opposite way.
Here's a helpful question to ask yourself:
What pain do you want in your life?
Put another way: What problems do you WANT to have in your life?
I was speaking with a mentor of mine yesterday, who's a very successful solopreneur in fitness.
He does a few million per year, has a SaaS offering... generally operates in that 80%+ profit margin solopreneur "dream space".
He told me about an "era" in his business where he was trying to scale and add employees.
The thing was, he absolutely hated the problems and pains that come along with managing other people.
Salaries, emotions, 401Ks, benefits... definitely not fun stuff for anyone that's never had to do it... It was a great of example of "a problem I'm not willing to have".
Often in life we find ourselves overwhelmed with problems that we don't want to have, but have accepted by default.
It's not that we're averse to pain and problems and struggle... it's that we want it to be our brand of pain. Some food for thought:
What pain do you want in your life?
What problems do you want to have?
What are you willing to endure?
And maybe most powerful of all:
What are you willing to struggle for?
